Samsung “Moisture Detected”: How to Fix It (Even When It’s Dry)

The water-drop icon and "Moisture detected" message stop your Galaxy from charging. Here is how to dry the port properly, why it appears when your phone isn't wet, and the fixes that clear a stuck warning.

What the moisture warning means

Galaxy phones measure moisture in the USB-C port. When they detect it, they show a water-drop icon and “Moisture has been detected in your charger/USB port. Make sure it’s dry before charging your phone.” Wired charging stops to prevent corrosion and short circuits. It’s a protective feature, not a fault.

How to fix Samsung moisture detected (when the phone got wet)

  1. Unplug the charger.
  2. Shake the phone gently with the USB-C port facing down.
  3. Wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth.
  4. Let it air-dry port-down in a ventilated area. Samsung recommends drying thoroughly before charging; this usually takes a few hours.
  5. Use wireless charging in the meantime if your Galaxy supports it (Galaxy S, Z and some A models do).
  6. Clear the speaker — the bottom speaker sits next to the port. Play the Samsung water eject sound to push water out of the grille.

Moisture detected but the phone is dry?

This is very common, especially on older Galaxy S and Note models. Work through these fixes in order:

  1. Clean the port. Lint and dust can trap humidity or touch the pins. Gently remove it with a wooden toothpick or a plastic interdental pick (not metal), shining a torch in first. See how to clean a charging port.
  2. Try a different cable and charger — preferably Samsung original or a quality USB-C cable. A damaged cable end can trigger the sensor.
  3. Restart the phone. Hold Side + Volume Down → Restart.
  4. Charge while the phone is switched off. The moisture check often doesn’t run when the phone is powered down, but only do this if you’re sure the port is dry.
  5. Clear the USB settings cache: Settings → Apps → tap the filter/sort icon → Show system apps → USBSettings → Storage → Clear cache (and Clear data). Restart.
  6. Boot into Safe Mode to rule out a third-party app.
  7. Update software: Settings → Software update.

If none of these work, the port may be corroded. Samsung service centers can replace the charging port, often as part of the sub-board.

Things to avoid

  • No hair dryers, ovens or radiators.
  • No metal objects in the port.
  • No rice — it isn’t more effective than open air.
  • Don’t use apps that claim to “disable” the moisture warning; charging a wet port causes real damage.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Samsung moisture detected last?

Usually until the port is dry, from 30 minutes to a few hours. If it lasts more than a day and the phone is dry, clean the port and clear the USBSettings cache.

Can I turn off moisture detection on Samsung?

There is no official setting to disable it, and you should not try to. It protects the port from corrosion.

Why does my Samsung say moisture detected when it is not wet?

Lint in the port, a damaged cable, humidity, or a software glitch. Clean the port, try another cable, restart, and clear the USBSettings app cache.
