iPhone Speaker Cleaner & Water Eject
Water in your iPhone speaker? Open this page in Safari, turn the volume up and press play. The 165 Hz water eject tone pushes water out of the bottom speaker and the earpiece — no Shortcut or app needed.
How to eject water from an iPhone speaker
- Turn off Silent mode (flip the Ring/Silent switch, or on iPhone 15 Pro and later check the Action button / Control Center) and raise the volume to maximum.
- Remove the case and dry the outside with a lint-free cloth.
- Hold the iPhone with the bottom speaker facing down.
- Tap play on Water Eject above. Run it 2–3 times. To target the earpiece, repeat with the top edge facing down.
- Leave the iPhone upright, speaker-down, in a dry place for a few hours.
Does iPhone have a built-in water eject?
No. Unlike Apple Watch, which has Water Lock, the iPhone has no built-in water eject button. People use either the “Water Eject” Siri Shortcut or a web tool like this one. Both play the same kind of low-frequency tone; the browser version just skips installing anything.
Which iPhones does it work on?
All of them with a working browser: iPhone 17, iPhone Air, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, XR, XS, X, SE and older. iPhone 7 and later have stereo speakers (bottom + earpiece), so you can clean both. iPhones from iPhone 7 onward are rated IP67 or IP68, which means they resist water, but water can still sit in the speaker mesh and muffle sound.
“Liquid detected in Lightning / USB-C connector” warning
If your iPhone shows a liquid detection alert when you plug in, the port is wet as well. Don’t charge until it clears. Tap the phone gently with the port facing down and leave it in a dry place with some airflow. Our guide Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector explains every option, including the Emergency Override.
What Apple recommends — and what to avoid
- Do not put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Rice dust and starch can get into the ports.
- Do not use a hair dryer, oven or compressed air.
- Do not insert cotton swabs or paper towels into the speaker or port.
- Do tap the iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down, then let it dry in an area with airflow.
Still muffled? Clean the iPhone speaker grille
If no water was involved, the cause is probably dust or pocket lint. Follow how to clean iPhone speakers and run the speaker dust cleaner. If the top speaker is quiet on calls only, see iPhone ear speaker not working. No sound at all? Read iPhone speaker not working. Alarm too quiet? See iPhone alarm volume.
